more buildings...

okay i know i havent been uploading my blog recently this is due to my error with the dongle i am currently having i will get that fixed as soon as possible. Anyway i know i havent been blogging much but i have been doin some work. In my previous blog i have shown the nation wide building which is completely finished with all the texture maps and i was really happy with the result sadly its still my favourite one as i did a few more which i will show in this blog but it still hasn't bet the quality to the nation wide building. i showed it to some of my friends and they all like the nation wide one but they also like the other buildings and they commented, "it looks realistic" which is a plus anyway moving on with the blog...

here is another building that i have modeled...basically how i started this is, i started off with a plane and then printed off my diffuse as a material onto the plane and then started to add line horizontally and vertically and extruded in and out then i started to put it together and get it to look like the reference as closely as possible but i do make some changes as i enjoy doing that. However, i think this is a good way and it saves me time as it get's my UVW and diffuse done, all i need to then focus on is the, spec and normal(normal could kill off some time, dependin on how detailed it is).

before i paste the diffuse on top of the plane i get it fixed on photoshop and cut out the window, walls, signs etc and put them separately which leaves it easier for me when it comes to 3dmax. all i then need to do is get the 2d plane into 3d and all that needs is some extruding in and out.

here is how it looked when it was fully attached but i still need to get my normals and spec done for this so i will upload this as soon as it finishes.
i felt as if the brick colour and the style of the brick did not compliment the the classical windows so i thought to change the brick style and colour itself as i mentioned early i do not mind making it look different from the original reference as long as it hold some features or similarities that is fine with me.
anyway i then moved onto another building which i found in town of leicester and started to model this in the same style of how i built the others...here are some snapshots..
i put it all togther and it come to this...
I have not completed this yet but i will add the door today and get both of this modelled and textured fully soon as i do that i will get the traingle added up and see how much i got to spare.

SNAPSHOTS...

Anyway i have finally textured 3 buildings entirely but i have another 7 to go...i am pretty much doing a building daily so it shouldnt be too long until i move onto the other assets but i will be uploading my other buildings as soon as i start... I am happy with what i have produced at the moment and this is motivating me to do more. the next building i will be doing would be slightly more complexed anyway i will upload the picture and then the model...

whats next??

After i got my first building done i instantly moved on doin other buildings what i planned is to get all my buildings within 2weeks so that is pretty much one building per day or 2nights depending on how fast i want them done and i obviously want them done as quickly as possible anyway here are some snapshots of the building i have completely finished with the diffuse, normal, spec and ambient occlussion. i have also done some windows for another building which i should get it done by tonight or tomorrow. sorry for the late upload as my net's been down and i am currently at the library to get it updated. in total i have 8 buildings and 2 interior ones which i want to get done within these two weeks...i will update as soon as i get my new building done but i am actually enjoying the modelling and the texturing. so thumbs up so far =) anyway i have finally finished of texturing another building and i am also moving it in to UDK as i go along this also applies with the texture pages...anyway here are the snapshots... (FOR SOME REASON IT DOESNT LET ME UPLOAD THE PICTURES SO I WILL UPLOAD IT INTO A NEW POST)...

House 01

After the presentation i was told and advice by the tutors that i lost my focus from the large assets and started to concentrate on the small assets. so i went a step back and planned how to get the buildings done as i had a few. So i decided to get at least three or four buildings done every week with it being fully textured. taking all the great comments and advice from the tutor, I started to model a building straight away and unwrapped it and now going to start to texture it but, I'm going to keep updating as i go along...here are some snapshots of the progression...

this is with out the high poly bake which is going to be added...

here is a quick snapshot after its been unwrapped with the checkers as its material...

now that the UVW is done i am ready to do a high poly version and use it as a Normal map....

Anyway i did the brick separately for my high poly version which i then merged on to the building and started to merge it around the side wall. i didn't cover it all as i could do that on the UVW but here is a quick results of the high poly version. I am going to bake it onto the low poly and update my results when the normals are completely finished.

Here are some snapshots of my work in progress...

After the normals where done i was ready to texture the model anyway i completely finished my normal, diffuse and ambient occlusion but i just got the spec left to do. so it's still work in progress but soon as i get that done, i will export it into UDK which will be in my next blog with another model but i will use this building twice but have different texture and color to it... one might be accessible as well so i would have to tweak some bits and bobs.

Here are some renders...im quite happy with the end results as i got the normal to come exactly as i wanted that's the thing i like about high poly bake you get to completely design the normal as you want but the only downfall is, it takes longer but i will certainly guarantee the end result wont let you done. before i show the renders here is a quick picture of the actual building but i have changed bits and bobs and not copied the building completely.

What am i doing today??

i want to start building this scene on to my level...so today i will be working on this which will be on the side of the house that i have shown on UDK on my previous blogs...i will build the fence and gates and the bricked wall that comes in between the two paths. soon after i have done that i will upload some snapshots of the render and when its exported in to UDK after that's done i will go back to my open market asset and finish it off and then jump back into modelling some houses...this is my task for today.

here are more assets that i modeled for the scene that is shown on the top images anyway i exported everything into udk and here are the results...

Outdoor Market...

I am currently Working on the out door market which is one of my major asset. so far the triangle limit has come up to 11,000. it all just built up to that figure but i will tweak bits to reduce the tri limit anyway here are some progression shots and wire frame...

overall i am pleased with the asset but i need to reduce the triangle as its not finished and a lot more is to do with this asset and i cant be having one asset being 20,000 triangles it would be ridiculous...so im going to keep working on this until i narrow it down to an acceptable triangle limit and then i will move on with the roof bit and the other bit etc.

here are some images that i have taken....

and here is my model so far...I still got bits and bobs to do so this model is unfinished at the moment, i will bump the top ceiling details and i have took one row out due to the triangle limit...its around 10,200 triangles at the moment but i will try to reduce it more but i want to keep the details and i will add the inside top details but i might not put the top lights in...this is one of my large assets so i don't feel bad to spend another day on it...

UDK.....snapshots.

Okay i started to export everything into UDK and shifted things around to the way i want my game level. i also started to model other assets like some houses and pathway etc. but i still need to edit some houses that are on the udk but i am currently working on a new house at the moment but this is what i did from yesterday till today. uploading everything into udk could be time consuming anyway here are some snapshots of udk and some assets that i modeled. I've done another 2 houses so far that are work in progress but soon as they finished i will upload them on to the blog and UDK.

As you could see the empty areas where the character could fall off and get him self killed would be all blocked by either buildings, gates or assets....
